Student Selected as
One of 10 McDonald's Champion Kids
A deserving
Madison Academy student was surprised by Ronald
McDonald Wednesday to learn she was selected as one of ten
U.S. McDonald's Champion Kids. It was announced that Erin
Young (HFC 98White)
won a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic
Winter Games to represent
Huntsville as a
hometown correspondent.
The MCK contest
was open to kids across the U.S.
between the ages of 11-14 from September 30 through October
30, 2009. Erin entered the contest by submitting a personal
essay and photo explaining why she should represent
Huntsville
and what the Olympic Values of friendship, excellence and
respect means to her. Her entry, which beat out hundreds of
contest entries from other kids from across the U.S.,
included the statement, "as you reach what some would call
perfection you feel there is still room for more and that is
when you reach excellence."
As an MCK, Erin
will have the opportunity to attend Olympic Winter Games
sporting events, meet athletes and other Champion Kids from
around the world, explore
Vancouver
with unique winter sporting and cultural activities, and
report her personal experiences back to her hometown.
Congratulations Erin!

HFC players earn a spot on the ODP
Region III Pool
Each year, all of the top
players in Region III (11 states represented) come together in
Tuscaloosa for a week long event of training and competition.
During this time, Regional, National, and Collegiate staff
coaches evaluate the players in order to name a small group of Elite
players to join a "pool".
During the year, a team of players from the pool will be
named to compete nationally and internationally.
Roy Etta from the '96 Boys Blue, coached by Uwe
Spiller and Zach Clark from the '92 Blue Boys, coached by Marty
Clark both earn top honors by joining the ODP Region III Pool.
This is Roy's first time
in the pool and he is actually a '97 player.
Congratulations Roy!
Zach is a 3 year member of the pool and has traveled on the
Regional team several times to include international trips.
