HFC and Community Involvement

Winter Camp 
Coach Henry and his 96Girls Blue finished 2-1-0 in their bracket finishing second at CASL in Raleigh. Only loss was a close 1-0 and they beat a tough team from Canada 2-0. Coach Brock and his 98Girls Blue tied 0-0 against a team from Tampa to finish their season by winning their GSA Adidas Showcase bracket. Our own Eduvie Ikoba, from the State Champion 97 Blue Boys Coached by James Ssemambo, is named to the ODP Region team and will be represented at the upcoming Interregional event in Sarasota FL in mid-December.

Congratulations to Coach James, Stacie, Brian and their seven girls (02Blue) that were chosen for the 01 ODP state teams. Ashley Colvin, Katey Ann Klingel, Sarah Lynam, Emma Houssain, Sara Burgreen, Madison Rader, & Hannah Patterson.

HFC99 girls are participating in Operation Green Team.  They have adopted the mile in front of the Merrimack Soccer Complex.  Adopt a Mile signs will be going up soon.

Rasch earns ICAA recognition (Former HFC 95Girls Player)
TIFFIN, Ohio - Darby Rasch has been named the Independents Collegiate Athletic Association (ICAA) Women's Soccer Player of the Week for NCAA Division II. Rasch, a freshman from Madison, Ala., had a hat trick in a 9-0 win over Judson College (Ala.) on Sunday afternoon. She scored three of the first four goals of the game. She is currently tied for the team lead in goals scored on the season with nine tallies in just five matches. The Badgers (4-1) will next host non-conference foe Tennessee Temple University (1-2) on Monday, September 16, at 2 p.m. on Library Field. Since 2004, the ICAA has given recognition to schools of independent status at the NCAA DII level. The membership in women's soccer includes Chowan, Lincoln, Oakland City, Palm Beach Atlantic, Spring Hill, Union and Washington Adventist. The weekly awards are chosen by ICAA Director Mike Bond.

Huntsville FC Coach, Uwe Spiller, who has coached in the community for many years, recently lost his son Austin.  To celebrate Austin's life, a scholarship has been set up through Huntsville Futbol Club.  The fund will assist a player in need to continue to enjoy the game Austin loved.

Avery Batson has been invited to U.S. Soccer  U-15 Girls' National Team
- Dallas, Texas: May 4 - 11, 2013

Caitlin Walters (Senior, Girls Varsity Soccer) has been awarded the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Senior Excellence Award. This award recognizes an outstanding senior student-athlete that has made significant contributions to the team, represents the finest attributes of a team player, consistently projects a positive attitude and displays excellent team leadership. Our own Jennie Oliver is now the Publix Parent of the Year for Alabama Youth Soccer!!! Congrats to Jennie and most of all - thank you for the tireless pursuit of managing our teams and always being there for our players and parents!!
Our very own Abby Phillips has been called up to play in the W League for the Colorado Rapids first team!! Abby was an HFC 92 Blue player.
Region III Champs
Avery Batson and her Region III team are champs!!!
Avery started all 4 games and played at Left Outside Back the entire tournament.   COONGRATS!

I wanted to take a minute to thank everyone for attending this year’s trip to Costa Rica.  I cannot tell you how excited we all are to bring the championship trophy back to Region III.  This is the first time in over 5 years that a team has gone undefeated and only allowed 2 goals all tournament. - Michelle L. Avery Batson left to play in the ODP International event in Costa Rica Feb 14-21, 2013. She has been invited to participate in the U.S. Soccer Training Center Games in Jacksonville, FL March 2, 2013.  Congrats!!


Avery Batson performed very well last week at the Thanksgiving Interregional games in Boca Raton, FL and as a result has been selected to play in the ODP International event in Costa Rica Feb 14-21, 2013. Congrats Avery!!!
National Signing Day 2013
Sparkman High School soccer player Caitlin Walters (HFC 95Girls Blue) has committed to play college soccer for Shorter University and Coach Jennifer Cooley. Shorter University is a Christian university located in Rome, GA.

The Senator’s senior midfielder first visited the Rome, GA campus in the Fall of 2012. She was fortunate to sit in on a few classes, meet the entire team and attend a home match. Caitlin was also able to attend a team training session and a few team bonding activities. Shortly after that visit, Caitlin gave her verbal commitment to Coach Cooley.

The Lady Hawks have been recently promoted to the Gulf South Conference (GSC) in NCAA Division II and nearly made their first playoff berth. They were honored with the NSCAA Team Academic Award in both 2009 and 2010. In addition to playing soccer, Caitlin plans to major in Pre-Med. The university’s warm atmosphere, focus on education and its passion to support student athletes will make Caitlin feel right at home. Congratulations Caitlin! We are proud of you and know that you will represent Sparkman High School well.

HFC 95Girls Blue) signs with Martin Methodist RedHawks!  Kristina is from Fayetteville, TN, is a 5-3 defender / wing player, maintains a 3.7 GPA, will be pursuing a degree in the medical profession at MMC. She is an active member of the BETA, HOSA organizations.
Ian Dempsey (HFC 95Boys Blue) will be signing to attend Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina.
Jonathan Trinh (HFC 95Boys Blue) will be signing to attend the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH).

Emily Rhodes (HFC 95Girls Blue) - Signs with UAH Women's Soccer
A 5-10 goalkeeper from Hazel Green High School, Emily Rhodes has also played for Huntsville Futbol Club where she has been a three-year captain of her team, and she helped guide that squad to championships at the 2012 Tennessee Cup, Florabama Tournament and the Kicks Tournament.

Melody Dodd (HFC 95 Maroon) has signed a scholarship to play for UAH Chargers.  Melody led the Maroon with 34 goals and was a key player leading the Maroon to the Florabama Tournament Silver Championship and D2 State Championship.

Rebecca Copeland (HFC '96 Girls Blue) has committed to play for Georgia State University in the Fall of 2014.  Rebecca is a junior at Grissom High School where she maintains a 3.8 GPA, is a member of the United Way Youth Leadership Council, and is a fourth year varsity soccer player.  Read More...

 

Allie Craig Cruce from 00Blue coached by Marty Clark will be going to the ODP Southeastern Showcase in Georgia in January with the 00's.

 

Stephen BeckSamuel Ehrle and Stephen McClenithan from the 01Boys Blue coached by Uwe Spiller were selected to play for their age group and represent Alabama and play on the Alabama ODP Team playing in the ODP Showcase in North Carolina in January 2013.  Congrats!!

 

Stephen Beck was chosen to play for RIII ODP in the Spring International Tour in Costa Rica. He'll be leaving February 27 and come back on March 6." Stephen played for 95Boys Maroon.
